This reaction should produce enough halogenoalkane to be able to use it in the next experiment.

Materials:

2-methylpropan-2-ol (20 cm3) Concentrated hydrochloric acid (70 cm3)
Calcium chloride (6 g) 0.1M sodium hydrogencarbonate (40 cm3)
Anhydrous sodium sulfate (5 g) Anti-bumping granules
100 cm3 measuring cylinder 250 cm3 conical flask and bung
Funnel 250 cm3 separating funnel
Bunsen burner Mortar and pestle
Tripod and gauze 100 cm3 conical flask
Heat proof mat 25 cm3 & 100 cm3 measuring cylinders
Cotton wool Glass bend
Still head 50 cm3 pear-shaped flask
Liebig condenser Rubber tubing
Sample bottle 100 cm3 beaker
Joint clip -10 to 110°C thermometer
Thermometer sleeve Top pan balance reading to the nearest ± 0.1 g
